Corporate Social Responsibility

Sustainability plays a key role in the daily life of countless people. Likewise, our mission is to augment the sustainability of our everyday essentials, so they complement this lifestyle. We deem sustainability and social responsibility as core values. Hand in hand with our customers and consumers, our aim is to work towards a better planet. Our corporate social responsibility vision is based on the following mainstays:

Making our products even more sustainable

Sustainability plays a key role in the daily life of countless people. Likewise, our mission is to augment the sustainability of our everyday essentials, so they complement this lifestyle. For instance, we are currently focusing on making our packaging more sustainable. Where at the outset, Sorbo products were packaged in both plastic and cardboard, we are endeavouring to reduce our use of plastic, and to make our cardboard using FSC® certified timber. Sorbo recently developed a new range - Sorbo Recycled - that is almost entirely made up of recycled materials. For example, our young brand, Greenminds, focuses solely on sustainability, and SensX's condoms are packaged in sustainable materials.

Reducing the impact of greenhouse gases on the environment.

Our future ambition is to be fully CO2 neutral and energy neutral. We have made significant steps forward in this regard already. In order to reduce our CO2 emission we are investing in fleet substitution. Where we formerly visited our customers in high CO2 emission vehicles, we now drive around in hybrid and electric ones. Where possible, we combine product and assortment groups, to minimise the number of journeys needing to be made.

We have also made signifiant inroads in becoming energy neutral. We continually seek ways in which to make our energy consumption more efficient in the short-term. As such, we have invested in solar panels for our Head Offcie in Duiven, which has already resulted in a 41% decrease in CO2 emissions.

Lean & Green award

We have been presented with the Lean & Green Award for our endeavours. Lean & Green incentivises businesses to strive towards a high degree of sustainability, via smart, (cost) efficient measures. This strategy reduces the impact on the environment, and results in more efficient corporate and logistical processes.

Reducing the impact of waste on the living environment

We strive towards reducing our waste production, and where possible to separate and recycle waste, to subsequently reduce the impact on the (living) environment. We collect and separate paper and cardboard, which we then offer to the paper industry for recycling. Collected glass waste is recycled 100% and turned into new glass products or windows. Collected foil is washed and ground down to granules, which is then used to make bottles or plastic bags. Our strategy has already proved hugely successful: in 2017 we saw a 58% reduction in CO2 emissions, compared to 2016.

Safeguarding working conditions

We strive towards optimal working conditions, both in-house and in terms of supplier operations. Dayes is affiliated with the BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative). The BSCI represents a code of conduct that facilitates businesses in improving and upholding working conditions, on an in-house and supplier level. Among other things, this code prescribes the right to form a trade union and safe working conditions, as well as to thwart discrimination, child labour and slavery. We are of the opinion that a company will only truly flourish in a society where workers' rights are respected.
